Dorothy Byrd Vizzier's Obituary
Dorothy B. Vizzier died September 5, 2012, at the age of 92 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It was the end of a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Mumford, Tennessee, she married Benton A. Vizzier in 1944. In addition to being a wife and mother, she achieved her life-long dream of becoming a nurse when she graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S.R.N. in 1972. She worked in Huntsville Hospital and Veterans Administration Medical System until her retirement in 1992. She and her husband moved to Mississippi in 2006 to be close to family. They again moved with their daughter to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2011.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Benton A. Vizzier, Sr., her four children, Yvonne V. Thaxton, of Fayetteville, AR; her son Michael and his wife Leigh of Coronado, CA; her son Richard and his wife Gloria of Virginia Beach, VA; and her son Benton, Jr. and Jackey H. Vizzier, of Ben Lomand, CA; her half-sister Pat Denne of St. Cloud, MN. She also has 3 grandchildren, Alexandra V. Stephensen, Chase Vizzier, and Paige T. Burke, along with 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
As she lived her life, Dorothy asked that her remains go to the medical school for research. A memorial service will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springdale, AR., on October 5, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts to the building fund of St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1386 South West End St., Springdale, AR 72764.
