Dorothy Mae Sutphin's Obituary
Dorothy May Sutphin, age 92, of Fayetteville, AR, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024. She was born October 24, 1932, in Page, West Virginia, a daughter of the late William Coleman and Stella Reese Coleman. Also preceding in death was her husband, Beverly Washington Sutphin, Jr.
Dorothy was faithful, kind and always patient in her love for her family, friends and community. She embraced the people in her life and offered them a sense of belonging. Gifted in working with her hands, she kept busy cooking, baking, gardening, cleaning, creating beautiful spaces, sewing, reading - and usually sharing those gifts with others. Many people remember her as a person who gathered family and community together and served them well - she invited others in and created spaces that were beautiful, inviting, and simply fun.
Dorothy remembered people and thought and prayed for others often - consistently reaching out through cards and phone calls. She treated all people in her life with respect and care. Even through her most difficult days as she encountered much pain, she remained an absolutely pleasant, humble and caring person to be around.
Survivors are her children, Susan Osborne, and Greg Sutphin (Susan); seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren - all of whom have been shaped by her love and who will forever enjoy the gift of attempting to re-create recipes like her fried chicken, coleslaw, molasses cookies and fudge. Dorothy loved and was so proud of each member of her family - considering them her greatest accomplishment.
