I enjoyed listening to Doug’s stories. He was a great story teller and I admired the story about his humble beginning. He was among a vanguard of building science pioneers in the 1970s, who were passionate about helping others. Many came to scoff because change would be required of residential home builders, contractors and the HVAC industry. Yet, the energy efficiency message was resonating with many homeowners and builders alike who were good stewards, wanted comfortable homes and with manageble utility bills. Some within the vanguard wrote books, started specialized schools and training programs. Doug went a different direction and took to the airwaves. I always enjoyed hearing the story about his first radio show. His mission and message that were shared for several years, were stalwart as he taught others across the country how they too could have an energy efficient home. Doug helped change America as she transformed into a more energy efficient country. New home construction and remodels are using far less energy today thanks to the lessons learned and taught by Doug Rye. It was a true blessing to have worked with Doug for over a decade. He was an inspiration. Peace be with you Phyllis, Phillip and family.
