Doylene Scroggin Fuqua's Obituary
Doylene Scroggin Fuqua of Bentonville, AR, age 87, died December 23, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born November 14, 1937 to Doyle Kennamer and Emma Louise (Brown) Scroggin in Morrilton, AR. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bobby Fuqua, her half-brother Bill Scroggin.
Doylene graduated from Morrilton High School and Arkansas Tech University where she earned her Associates degree. She married her high school sweetheart, Bobby Fuqua, in Morrilton, AR on July 12, 1957. Doylene and Bobby moved to Bentonville in 1960. She continued her education at the University of Arkansas, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education and went on to earn her Master’s degree in Counseling; regularly making the dean’s list while raising two daughters, carrying full-time student hours and substitute teaching.
She was an educator at Bentonville High School for 30 years. For many of these years, she also enjoyed sponsoring the cheerleader squad. She often expressed to her family that what she learned from her students was that they may not remember the subject matter she taught them, BUT they would always remember how they were treated by her in her classroom. Her hope was that they always felt like they were treated fairly and honestly.
Along with her passion for education, Doylene felt strongly about her role in her community. She served on Bentonville Public School Board for 15 years and NWACC Board of Trustees for 12 years, serving as Chairperson for both boards. She was a recipient of the R.E. (Ed) Buck Award, which is given annually to a member of the community showing excellence in business leadership.
Doylene was a member of the Bentonville First United Methodist Church for over 64 years, where she served in many capacities. Her strong faith was a cornerstone of her life always guiding and mentoring her family and others and leading her to her passion for helping others in need by serving with the FUMC Second Street Pantry.
She is survived by her two daughters Terri Bertschy and husband Tony and Robin McDonald and her husband Kevin. Four grandchildren, Dustin McDonald, Amanda McDonald, Taylor Bertschy and Kristen Cummings and husband Justin.
