I just read of Dr. Gaddy's passing in the current Arkansas Engineer publication. I was a student in his class in the early 1980's. The first day of class, he had two books stacked on his desk...one was the class textbook and the other a large gold leaf Bible. To the class, he picked up the textbook and said, "This is the book we study by." Then he picked up the Bible and said, "This is the book I live by." I will never forget.

We were very saddened to hear of your father's passing. How blessed you are to know that he is with your mother now, in Heaven. The last time we ran into him we were at The Cove in Asheville! It was fun to chat with him several times during that time.

Dr Gaddy was not only my PhD advisor, but he was a lifelong mentor and friend. Jim Gaddy taught me Leadership skills I still use today and try to pass along to others, especially those that look to me for leadership. As a first year PhD student I asked why we didn’t have weekly meeting, like several other groups. Jim told me we would have a meeting when we needed one, but weekly meeting just forced us to make up presentations. I look back at the hundreds of meetings I have sit in where we reviewed 10 slides that basically said – no progress. Dr. Gaddy also told me always forgive everyone, but never forget so it does not happen a second time.
I still remember getting my PhD, after getting hooded I am congratulated by Dr. Gaddy and the Governor of Arkansas – Bill Clinton. I am one of the few that got a PhD awarded by a US President.
After leaving Arkansas I have a 2-year work assignment in Germany. Sharon & I (along with a 5 & 1 year old) take a vacation to Salzburg Austria. I am walking Kelly (1-year old) along the city just keeping her entertained and who do I run into – Jim & Betty Gaddy. What a wonderful surprise.

Robert and I have loved Jim and Betty for so many years, and the sweet memories flowed through us all week. When we started Fellowship Bible in Rogers years ago, they drove here to worship with us. It was such a blessing to have them share in developing our congregation from its infancy. They had such a pioneer spirit of adventure in what God was doing here. Then that same spirit led to helping New Heights Church in the future years. How God used them to build His kingdom!
Through the many years of friendship with them, I have so many memories of love and shared conversations in Christ with many words of wisdom from them. Betty always loved and respected Jim so much...I never remember a cross word said about Jim from her lips. What a model of love and support from them both to us as a younger couple. We will always be grateful for those years of friendship and support from Jim and Betty. Looking forward to seeing them again in our heavenly home. What a sweet reunion. Can you imagine e the questions she has already asked the saints, let alone her Savior. 🙏

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Gaddy when he made a charitable contribution of a significant portion of the biomass technology that he developed. Not only was he a brilliant scientist, but he was a true gentleman, always patient, kind and generous, even when dealing with international businesses who wanted to use the biomass technology that he developed. There was never a doubt in my mind that he did not desire fame or fortune for himself. He gave credit to God for everything that he was able to create and accomplish, and desired that a vast portion of the economic gain from his biomass technology would go to, and be used by, God's Kingdom. I am privileged and blessed to have known and worked with him.

Jim & Betty were both miraculous and blessed friends. Their warmth and caring for all around them was palpable at first meeting.

it was our good fortune to work and learn from them both - this thoughtful nurturing changed the trajectory of our lives.

We send our love and prayers to the family at this sorrowful time and know that the wonderful and warm memories of fishing, traveling, laughing about Jim being 'first chair' in his middle school 'B' band and many other evidences of his humor, intellect and caring will be a comfort at this difficult time.
