Eddie J. Pulliam's Obituary
Eddie J. Pulliam, of Fayetteville passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 in Fayetteville at the Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born July 7, 1943 in Pine Bluff to Albert and Ruby Parks Pulliam. He attended Merrill High School in Pine Bluff and graduated with honors. He was a 1965 Graduate of the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. Upon graduation he was recruited by Weyerhaeuser Company and began his career as a chemist at the Weyerhaeuser Company Treating Plant in DeQueen, Arkansas and advanced to Laboratory Supervisor. He later transferred to Weyerhaeuser Paper Company in Valliant, Oklahoma and there continued as manager in several areas including Shift Superintendent and Power and Recover Superintendent. During his years with the Company he received the Professional Roundtable of Supervisors (PROS) Award which included a trip for two to Hawaii. He completed his career in management and retired in 2002 after 37 years of service.
He served as Mayor of the City of DeQueen for 8 years.
Eddie was a former member of the Lewis Temple Church of God In Christ in DeQueen where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He and his wife Rose moved to Fayetteville in March of 2003 and worshiped with Hyland Park Assembly of God Church for four years. When the Spirit of Truth Church of God In Christ was established in Springdale, they returned to the COGIC denomination and he continued his service as deacon .
He was united in Holy matrimony to Rose Thomas November 20, 1965 in Pine Bluff at
Trinity Temple Church of God In Christ by pastor DeWitt Hill. The couple also celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a renewal of vows ceremony in November of 1990 at Trinity Temple with the same pastor.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Thomas H. Pulliam.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Rose; two sons, Christopher Pulliam of Fayetteville, and David Pulliam of Las Vegas, Nevada; Two grandsons, Asante’ Pulliam and Isaiah Pulliam of Fayetteville; Two brothers, Dr. Albert L. Pulliam of Houston, Texas, and Dewey R. Pulliam of Kalamazoo, Michigan; one aunt Mazola Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana; 3 nieces and one nephew and a host of cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 27, 2011 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, February 28, 2011 in the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home with Reverend Benjamin Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
