Edith C. Tallyn's Obituary
Edith C. Tallyn was born on January 28, 1918 in her parent's farm home near LaRose, Illinois. She was the first of two daughters and one foster son who was killed in World War II. She married Harrison L. Tallyn on June 28, 1939 at the Little Brown Church in the Wildwood. They have one daughter, Laura Gomez of Elkins, Arkansas. Her sister Marjorie (Maurie) married Max Hill and they had one daughter, Deborah Edwards of Naperville, Illinois. During WWII she lived in Georgia, Michigan and California where she moved and lived for 41 years. She was the Upland School District's Director of Food Service until her retirement. In 2000, at the age of 80 she moved to Elkins, Arkansas where she became a member of the Elkins Senior Ladies Group, Elkins Senior Quilters, a member of the library and strong member of the Elkins Community Church until she could no longer attend due to illness. Edith loved her new home a designed a hand quilted a wall hanging of the Elkins Elk mascot, which is hanging in the Elkins School District Office. Edith traveled extensively, painted in watercolors, loved to quilt, garden, sew and bake. She is survived by her daughter, Laura, son-in-law, Rigo and niece, Deborah.
A memorial service will 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 1, 2005 at the Elkins Community Church with Chaplain Maurice Roberts officiating. There will be a reception for family and friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation, in her name, to the American Cancer Foundation.
