Edward Joseph Furst's Obituary
Edward Joseph Furst, 87, of Springdale, AR passed away March 6, 2007 in Springdale. He was born December 23, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Elizabeth (Pratscher) Furst.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helene (Rowe) Furst, who he married August 26, 1951, one daughter, Linda (Dennis Tiche) of Boyers, PA, two sons, Donald (Ellis) of Wilmington, NC, Kenneth (Denene) of Sparta, TN, one sister, Lizabeth Furst of Springdale, one brother, Warren of Barrington Hills, IL, nine grandchildren, Laura, Rachel and Emily Tiche, Paris, Juliet and Evangeline Furst, Caren (Joshua Michael), Brian and Kevin Furst and one great-grandson, Thomas Michael. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred.
He was a professor in the College of Education at the University of Arkansas from 1966 until his retirement in 1987, when he was granted emeritus status. He was an author, editor and lecturer in the field of educational and psychological measurement. He received his BA, MA and PhD degrees from the University of Chicago, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was on the faculties of Ohio State University, the University of Idaho and the University of Michigan before coming to the University of Arkansas. He served as captain in the US Army in the Adjutant General's Corps in Europe during World War II.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville. After his retirement from the University, he continued his lifelong pursuit of knowledge. He was passionate about his ideals and was a frequent letter writer on issues that concerned him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17 at 10:30 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home & Crematory of Fayetteville. Burial will be in the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
