Elizabeth Ann Usher's Obituary
Elizabeth Ann Usher, 85, longtime resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away in Springdale, AR at Circle of Life on June 27, 2026. She was born on March 18, 1941, in Sayre, Oklahoma, to Virgil Eugene Fletcher and Anna Mae (Jobe) Fletcher.
Elizabeth lived a life defined by love, faith, and generosity. From a young age, she was known for her strong spirit and determination—working as a car hop in her family’s drive-in restaurant and excelling as a standout basketball player in high school. She carried that same dedication and warmth into everything she did throughout her life.
A gifted candy maker, cake decorator, amazing cook and seamstress, Elizabeth turned her talents into something that brought joy to countless people. A few of the family favorites were her famous hamburgers and chicken and dumplings. She proudly owned and operated Fortenberry’s Fine Candies in Woodward, Oklahoma, where her sweets quickly became beloved by the community. Her “Boomer Bar,” created in honor of the Woodward Boomers, was a local favorite, and her chocolate-covered strawberries were so popular they rarely lasted past noon. She later opened Elizabeth Ann’s Candyland in Altus, continuing to share her creativity and passion.
Elizabeth’s greatest calling, however, was her faith and her love for others. She became a Christian at an early age and remained a devoted member of the Church of Christ throughout her life. She found deep purpose in studying the Bible, encouraging others, and sharing the message of Christ. She had a servant’s heart and was known by all who knew her as someone who would give the coat off her back without hesitation. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
In 1982, she married the love of her life, David H. Usher. Together they shared 41 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, faith, and family until his passing in 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David H. Usher; three sisters, Frances Dodson, Faye Smith and Nancy Switzer; one brother, Ferrell Fletcher; and her beloved great-granddaughter, Asami Marley, who passed away at seven months old.
She is survived by her two daughters, Shari Doss and husband Rick, and Debbie Massey and husband Jim; four brothers, Larry Dale Fletcher, John Fletcher, Keith Fletcher, and James Fletcher; three sisters, Kaye Johnson, Arlene Lord, and Kathy Gibson; four grandchildren, Denise Jenkins, Brittany Marley, Tyler Bradbury, and Marlee Maloy; and seven great-grandchildren, Adyson, Reid, Tate, Soraya, Ben and Bea.
Elizabeth will be remembered for her warm heart, her giving spirit, her strong faith, and the sweetness she brought into the lives of others—both through her confections and through her love. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the many lives she touched.
