Eugenia Scott's Obituary
Our family Matriarch, Mrs. Eugenia, Aunt Jean, Mama, and her preferred title Big Mama, took her last breath Sunday February 11, 2024 at 93 years young. Her family trusts she awoke fully satisfied, healed, seeing face to face her Creator, her family, and the only man for her, who waltzed her home, Lamar Scott.
She was wed to her best friend and dance partner, Wayne Lamar Scott, Sr. on December 24th, 1948. They built their home together on the Scott family farm and enjoyed almost 47 years of marriage there.
They loved to dance in their den to the Lawrence Welk show on Saturday nights, and you would find them attending worship each Sunday at the Methodist church service with family dinners following worship. They enjoyed card games with friends, hosting young pastors, and attending; coaching and supporting their boys in sporting events for over 30 years.
She was the Title One Coordinator for the Jefferson County Public School System her entire working career. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Fayette, MS, and participated in the Red Hat Society during her years at Sunnybrook Estates in Madison, MS. She held her active membership at First United Methodist Church in downtown Rogers, AR.
She loved all things Christmas and collected Santa Clauses. At one point she was known to have displayed over 100 Santa’s in her home. A few dear Santa’s remained on display for year round merriment.
Continuing her legacy are her three sons: Wayne Lamar Scott, Jr. (Jo Lynn) of Harrisonburg, LA parents to Tammy Gill, Brandy (Justin) Montpelier, and Jason (Trish) Scott; Lynn Scott (Amber) of Rogers, AR parents to Graham Scott, Jonas and Caroline Tallmadge; and William (Connie) Scott of Dover, AR parents to Beth (Josh) Whitlow and Lucas (Shanteal) Scott with a host of great and great great grandkids.
She was born September 27th 1930 to Hazel Ruby Anding McPhate and Irby Eugene McPhate in McNair, Mississippi. She was the first born of the four children and last one to leave this earth. The family is once again rejoicing in their reunion together with brothers Prentiss Edward McPhate, and Thomas Irby (Tim) McPhate, and her closest ally and sister Frances Elizabeth (Betty) McPhate Wallace.
Big Mama loved her family and was most joyous when all were gathered together around a table. She was known for always having candy, cookies, and special treats readily available for her guests. Some of the families favorites were her coconut cakes, banana pudding and ham!
The family is entrusting Laird Funeral Home in Natchez, MS for arrangements.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 16th, 1:30 pm at Greendale Methodist Church Cemetery, 12790 McNair Rd NW, Roxie, MS 39661.
Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, she has requested donations be made to the
