Remembering Evan Burr Bukey 1940-2024 Lifelong scholar Evan Bukey passed away November 20, 2024 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Though his death was unexpected, he was wrapped in the caring words of family and friends during his last Read Obituary
I find myself wondering what he would have said about current events.
Evan and Anita were always so kind to us during our five years working at the University of Arkansas. We always loved going to their house for an evening of great food and conversation and he always made me feel important in my work. He was a true original and a wonderful person, whose impact will continue for some time. My deep condolences to Anita and the rest of the Bukey family.
Although much younger, Evan was one of my grandfathers dearest friends, and with his beautiful wife Anita the first americans I met as a child. Their warmth and kindness are among the most precious memories of my childhood.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.
Astrid (granddaughter of Arthur)
Among the great historians that I ever heard. A major influence on me pursing a Ph.D. and becoming a professional academic myself. I still try to emulate his lecture style in my own classes. Thank you Dr. Bukey! John Kyle Day, Ph.D., Professor of History, University of Arkansas at Monticello
Dr Bukey, my great Professor of German history and one who dedicated hours to improving our writing and thinking skills while we earned our Master’s degree in History. I asked him in my latter years if I should have gone on to the Ph.d. He responded, “Steve you taught 5 thousand human beings-look at the influencevyou have had on people-I envy YOU!” Than you Dr Bukey for true teaching.
Like a riddle:" I never met him but he was never very far away from my thoughts..."
