Darlene & family, Mama & I were so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. My sister, Linda, saw the obituary in the Democrat,called me, and gave me this website address. I know your Mama is in God's loving arms. Of that, there is no doubt. It's hard to lose one's parent but knowing they are with Jesus lightens your heart. God has a way of working things out. I thought of you a couple of weeks ago when we were sending out a few Christmas cards. I even tried, unsuccessfully, to find you on facebook. I don't think that was just a coincidence. Mama is doing pretty well. She will be 88 this Valentines Day. Her disease/disorder, Sjogrens Syndrome is progressing but we have a good doctor. In fact, today was her 6 month check up. She has arthritis pretty bad in her knees but injections help. Though I have lived in Fayetteville for many years, I was born and grew up at Black Rock. Numerous times on returning to Northeast Arkansas I stopped by Powhatan Courthouse to visit with Evelyn. I liked her immensely and, of course, have admired her greatly for her remarkable cotributions to the preservation of so many aspects of Lawrence County history.
I wanted to say how sorry to hear of your Mom's passing, she led a full life and I will always remember her at the courthouse working tirelessly to get everything documented. It was a pleasure to work with her and one that I will always treasure. I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend the services but please know that my prayers are with you and your families during this time of your loss.
Everyone interested in Lawrence County's 200 years of history owes Evelyn Flippo a debt of gratitude for her dedication to saving the 19th-century buildings and records that are now Powhatan Historic State Park and the core holdings of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives. Few people leave such a lasting legacy.

Miriam and Bob:Your mother and my mother were dearest friends. Their fathers, Mose Robertson and John McCarroll were Mount Vernon neighbors and cattle farmers. Your grandmother, Edith, was pianist at our Mount Vernon Church. Bob, I enjoyed having you as my Work Study student at Williams Baptist College.
