Lee Came to work for me when he was in Houston, back in 1977. I never knew him as Floyd, just as Lee. I remember coming back to Jonesville to pick him up after a minor surgery he was recuperating from. I went to the auction house with him, and saw a few pieces of furniture I wanted to bid on, so I stayed over to wait for auction day. Meanwhile, his dad was going to pull up the tomato plants, so I decided to can them. Lee and I went to what was, for me, a new store, Walmart. I'm blond, and am used to having people stare at me for it. I thought I would have no trouble finding Lee with his red hair, when he wandered off while I looked at canning jars. I looked up and was stunned to see that everyone in there had red hair!
Another thing that tickled me about Lee were the sayings he had. I collect English words and sayings, and he had some of the funniest ones. "you're getting so skinny, you're gonna have to stand twict in the same place just to throw a shadder." And "that aint no hill for a stepper!" I guess these are colloquialisms unique to Jonesville or Springdale. To me, they are the quaint and funny fabric of America. God rest your troubled soul Lee. I hope you overcame your addiction and anger issues.
