I was saddened to learn that Bill Bell passed away last January. I had hoped to reach out to him to better understand my father, Charles Vint’s, involvement during the time surrounding the 1987 JVA scandal in Thailand.
During those difficult years, refugees faced immense uncertainty and hardship. In 1989, Bill played a role in helping my grandfather, Le Van Phat, escape and begin a new life in freedom. That decision changed the course of our family forever.
Because of his courage and willingness to help, generations after my grandfather have been able to grow, build families, and live with opportunity and hope. His impact reaches further than he may have ever known.
Our family is deeply grateful. May he rest in peace.

Anh Chuong oi. I miss you a lot. I did six iterations in Vietnam including the first to Tam Dao Mountain AKA Thud ridge. It was always a joy to work with him. I have so many memories of Bill, his linguistic capability--so good on at least one occasion the Vietnamese asked him to also be their interprete4r. That is a huge endorsement of not only his linguistic capability but his trustworthiness' and character.

My friend, I miss you deeply and pray for God's care of your soul. Lots of love to you and family.

I loved going to Bills Christmas parties. I became good friends with Bill. He introduced me to many of his friends. I am now close to those people. Bill was very generous to me. He introduced me to Savannah, we have been together over 15 years now. Bill was a good friend. I have missed him for quite a while now. I chose to remember Bill the way he was. I will miss this great man

Bill and I were very good friends. We stayed in contact for over 55 years. A humorous memory I have of us at Ft Campbell is that my wife and I invited him over for chili at FT Campbell. She was not a good cook. She added four tablespoons of cayenne pepper to the chili. Bill never complained but ate it like a trooper. Perfect guest. LOL. I will always miss him and often read letters from him.
