Gary Dean McCullah's Obituary
Gary Dean McCullah went to be with the Lord on April 19, 2024. He was born to Harold and Hazel McCullah on February 17, 1954 at the Old City Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1972 and went to work at the University of Arkansas as a computer technician. In 1980, Gary enlisted in the US Navy and rose to the rate of Chief Petty Officer before his retirement in 1999. Gary graduated from college from State University Albany New York majoring in business. He was a caregiver for his father for three years. In keeping with his service to others, he was employed at the Fayetteville National Cemetery for one year until he took a job with the Arkansas Department of Human Services as a medical and food stamp worker until his retirement in 2016. He has been currently employed with the Area Agency on Aging as a custodian and the Washington County Election Commission as a poll worker.
Gary was ordained as a deacon in 2019 and held the position of trustee for West Ridge Free Will Baptist church for many years. He was a member of the Boston Mountain National Railway Society and currently held the position as chapter President.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his aunts and uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Clare Hulseman McCullah of Farmington, Arkansas. His sister, Brenda McCullah Elkins (Larry) of West Fork, Arkansas, a niece Katie Rentsch, her children and grandson, and a nephew, Kevin Elkins. The couple have three sons, Jack Bates (Anna) of Fayetteville, Arkansas. (Their children, Dakota (Vanessa) Bates of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Levi (Maddie) Bates of Lafayette, Colorado, and Merritt Bates). Nathan Bates (Annie) of San Diego, California and their children, Noah and Adeline. Benjamin Bates (Meredith) of Fayetteville, Arkansas and their son, Bryce Bates. One uncle, Thomas (Paula) Martin of Farmington, Arkansas.

Visitation at Moore’s Funeral Chapel, 206 Center Street, Fayetteville, Arkansas from 4-6 pm Wednesday evening, April 24,2024
Funeral Services at West Ridge Free Will Baptist Church 4596 W. Wedington Dr., Fayetteville, Arkansas @ 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024.with Bro. Larry Little officiating. Internment @ 2:30 on April 25 at the Fayetteville National Cemetery, 1000 Lt. Col. LeRoy Pond Ave. Fayetteville, Arkansas with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to St. Jude’s for cancer research.
