Writing to express my deepest condolances. Lawrence and I exchanged family genealogy information via email for the past few years. Lawrence was always so willing to answer questions and guide me in the right direction to find even more answers. I wondered why he had stopped emailing, and then found that he died. I wish I could have met him in person to shake his hand.

My father often spoke of Lawrence;I was sorry to read of his passing. I believe my brother Scott had corresponded with him at times. I knew Morris and Walter, but never met Lawrence.

Lawrence Brown and my Dad, the late MAJ(Ret) Wilson H. Morris, were cousins and good friends in Fairmont, WV, in the pre-WWII years when they served together in the WV National Guard. After the war, when they were always far from each other, Dad was interested in where Lawrence was stationed and shared with me his admiration of his dedication to duty. During my active service as a career Army officer, I had lunch with Lawrence and Ruth in Springdale during my tour as the Little Rock District Engineer.
We have lost another member of the greatest generation. Godspeed and our prayers are with the family.

What a witness for all of us growing up in WV! He loved his heritage, country and truly exemplified the "Greatest Generation." We are truly grateful for all he has done to keep us "connected" through his passion for geneology and the web! He will be missed!

As an 18-year-old Pershing Rifle pledge in 1965, I had to get the signature of all the current members of the Pershing Rifles, including Col. Brown's, on a wooden rifle I had to carry around for a week. I still have that rifle, which hangs on the wall in my workshop. After 40 years, I don't remember any of the men who signed that rifle, except Col. Brown. During my 4-year ROTC career, I learned from Col. Brown how to be a good Army officer. After graduation, and after the Colonel retired, I would see him often, working in his yard around the corner from my morther-in-law's house. Sometimes I would stop and chat, other times, I'd just honk and wave.

He was a good man and a good soldier. I will remember him every time I look up and see that wooden rifle hanging on the wall. My prayers are with you.
