Glen Scott Richards' Obituary
Glen Scott Richards, age 49, of Farmington, AR left his earthly home on July 20, 2020 to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven. Anyone who knew Glen knew that he was the most loving father and devoted husband a family could ask for. He was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends.
A General Motors and ASE Master Technician at Chevrolet of Fayetteville, Glen worked for Chevrolet for over 30 years specializing in transmissions. As a highly skilled technician and a hard worker, he took great pride in serving his customers. But he was also known to have a little fun at the shop with his co-workers. Stories that would have him and everyone around him laughing so hard they couldn’t catch their breath. Glen loved working with his hands, whether it was on cars or making furniture.
Glen met the love of his life, Shannon Devitt in Shelton Connecticut, when he was seven years old at Miss Judy’s School of Dance. Glen and his friends would peak in the windows as his mom taught and he was even known to make cameo’s in the recitals. In one recital, the script called for Shannon to propose to Glen. Little did they know that 14 years later, Glen would use that same script to propose to Shannon.
Married for 19 years, they have three beautiful children. A daughter, Georgia and two sons, Joey and Brady all of Farmington. Glen and Shannon gained an amazing church family when they joined Calvary Baptist Church in 2014. Glen took an active role teaching in Awana, coaching Upward basketball and serving as a deacon since 2017.
Glen never found a guitar he didn’t like. He had a passion for all kinds of music, (except for showtunes). Although he loved heavy metal in his younger days, over the past five years, almost every Sunday, he could be found playing guitar with Calvary’s Worship team.
Glen loved the outdoors including camping, hiking, mountain bike riding and the water. He was a Master Diver and loved spending time at the lake, whether he was fishing from his kayak, driving the boat trying to flip his kids off a tube or just drinking coffee on the dock, he always had his fishing hat on and a big smile on his face. He especially loved to teach the kids how to fish, navigate the waters and how to snorkel.
Although his mother burnt him out on show tunes while growing up, he was never too tired to watch Georgia perform on stage. He was so proud of her performances and could be heard giggling in the audience when something tickled him.
Glen loved cheering on the Razorbacks. But his real passion, was coaching his son’s baseball teams and watching them play football and basketball. He was so proud of Joey and Brady and loved coaching and watching them in sports. After a long day at work, he would tirelessly play basketball or throw a baseball in the side yard with the boys. Georgia, Joey and Brady were Glen’s pride and joy. The legacy of Glen’s kind spirit, passion for sports, love of the outdoors and musical talent will live on through them.
Glen was predeceased by maternal grandparents Chet and Marge Carpenter and paternal grandparents Robert and Dorothy Richards. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his parents, Wayne and Judy Richards of Kimberling City, Missouri; his sister, Joy Nerenberg and her husband Mike of Stafford, Virginia, and many other beloved family members.
