Glenn Stafford Nelson's Obituary
Glenn Stafford Nelson, age 92 of Fayetteville went to be with Jesus Tuesday, January 14, 2014 in Fayetteville. He was born March 14, 1921, in Trinidad, Colorado, to Wiley and Nellie Scarboro Nelson.
He was a founding member and a deacon at Sang Avenue Baptist Church in Fayetteville. He taught Sunday school at Sang Avenue Baptist Church and other Baptist churches for a period of over 60 years.
He was in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was also a pioneer in the development of both the blackberry and strawberry harvester in the 1960’s at the University of Arkansas.
He is predeceased by his wife, Virginia Jones Nelson, and his parents.
He is survived by his daughters, Glynda Dickinson and Joyce Nelson, both of Fayetteville; a sister, Lillian Hamilton of Lubbock, Texas; and three grandchildren, Brian Dickinson, Charles Wuest, and Leigh Anne Wuest.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 16, 2014 from, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moore’s Chapel.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 17, 2014, at Sang Avenue Baptist Church in Fayetteville with burial to follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
