Gretchen Stevenson House's Obituary
Gretchen Stevenson House was a caring mother, sister, friend, and servant of God. She left this world on February 3, 2024 at age 92.
She was born to Frederick and Edith Stevenson on December 7, 1931. After graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1950, she attended the University of Arkansas where she met her husband Jimmy House. They moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and had 4 children: Steve, Terry, Scott, and Matt.
She was devoted to the Episcopal Church and many organizations that were a help to others. Gretchen was a long time P.E.O. member, served on many Cursillo teams which are short courses in Christian living, one as a lay rector. She also served on Kairos teams, a prison ministry based on Cursillo, and similar ministries. She was a certified Religious Assistant, teaching in prisons. Gretchen was a visionary and a founder of the Dick Johnston Camp for Children of the incarcerated. She served on the board of Saint Francis House in Little Rock, which helps underserved individuals and veterans, addressing diverse and critical needs with assistance. Gretchen was also a member of Daughters of the King, the extension of Christ’s Kingdom through prayer, service, and Evangelism. She was a member, and secretary for a time, of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, where she and Jimmy were married. Also, a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Johnston Stevenson and Edith Hussmann Stevenson, a brother, Frederick H Stevenson, and her husband Jimmy Bryan House. She is survived by her sister: Caroline Stevenson of Little Rock, AR. Three sons: Steve (and Janet) House of Alma, AR, Scott (and Cindy) House of Rudy, AR, Matt (and Amy) House of Enid, OK, and one daughter Terry (and Glenn) Wilson of Goshen, AR. Four grandchildren: Josh Brice and wife Kaylee, Amanda Lilley and husband Dax, Kristen House, and Tracey House. And 6 great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 2nd, 2:00 PM, at St Michael’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock.
