Hilda Mae Stinson's Obituary
Hilda Mae Harmon Stinson, of Elkins, passed away on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, at 83 years old. She was born on August 2, 1939, in Kenova, West Virginia, to Herman V. and Louise Riggs Harmon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Troy Wesley Floyd Stinson; grandson Justin Allen Floyd Stinson; brothers Ernest Paul Harmon and Reverend Joseph Willard Harmon, Ralph Gidian Harmon; and sisters Mildred June Harmon Jackson and Pansy Lee Harmon Dean.
Hilda was a member of Living Hope Assembly in Elkins and an active worshipper. She was an active member of Gideon Lady’s Auxiliary, also. Hilda and Troy lived most of their married life in Riverside, California. Hilda worked at Harris Department store in cosmetics and went to night school at Riverside Community College. She played the piano at rest homes, singing hymns with the old folks for years in California. They retired and moved to Elkins in November of 1992 and loved it here. Hilda played the piano and sang with the old folks at Fayetteville Health and Rehab from 1994 to 2019. She also played in Springdale at two homes and the High Rise in Fayetteville for several years. She enjoyed crocheting and making all her great grandchildren blankets. Her truest reward was her family. She was loved by everyone she met. She loved to give and to share God’s love. She wasn’t afraid to preach the Gospel to anyone who would listen. She was an active churchgoer to several different area churches. She always had a story or a song to go with any situation, happy and positive and smiling, always. She was a true inspiration to all who knew her. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
Hilda leaves behind her two sons, Kenneth Floyd Stinson of Elkins and Kevin Paul Stinson of Elkins; two granddaughters, Jennifer Ann Stinson Travis and husband Jason Lee Travis, and Shannon Marie Stinson Betrue and husband Neil Betrue; seven great grandchildren, Bayli LeAnn McBride and husband Justin McBride, Trinity Ann Stinson, Faith Marie Phetinta and husband Teancum Phetinta, Adysen Delaney Travis, Malachi Betrue and wife Kaylin Betrue, Hanania Grace Betrue, and Saydi Lynne Travis; two great great grandsons, Keagan and Kyrie Phetinta; and a great great granddaughter on the way, Lydia McBride; two sisters, Hazel Ruth Harmon Carey of Wooster, Ohio, and Herma Lou McGarity of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; and many other family members, friends, and loved ones.
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28th, 2023, at 2:00PM at Round Mountain Community Church. Burial will follow at Stokenbury Cemetery in Elkins under the direction of Moore’s Chapel Funeral Home.
