Ila Trene Andres Harwood's Obituary
Ila Trene Andrews Harwood passed away on Monday, July 28, 2008, after an extended illness with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on May 10th, 1930, to Mary and James Andrews, in Cecil, Arkansas.
Ila attended Ozark public schools, graduated from Ozark High School, and attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. She married Ray Eugene “Gene” Harwood, on February 2, 1950. Together they lived in Fort Smith and made permanent residence in Hot Springs. She lived the past 4 years in Fayetteville, AR
Beginning in 1965, Ila taught kindergarten and eventally retired in 1996 as the Headmistress of St. Luke’s Episcopal Day School of Hot Springs. She attended First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs and was active in her Sunday School class and served on many of that church’s boards and committees. She also volunteered for and served on the board of directors of the Hot Springs YWCA. She was a member of Criterion and enjoyed part-time work at the Arlington Gown Shop where she was able to indulge her love of people and for fashion. She was known as an adoring spouse and homemaker, a loving mother, a wonderful mother-in-law, and a caring friend to many.
Ila is survived by her daughter, Melissa Harwood-Rom of Fayetteville, and son-in-law Curt R. Rom, and her two loved granddaughters, Zoë Harwood and Clio Grace Rom; two brothers Kendrick Andrews and George Andrews, their spouses, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, July 31, 2008 at First United
Methodist Church, Hot Springs, AR. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Ila’s honor may be made to First United Methodist Church, Hot Springs, Arkansas.
