We lived in Hot Springs from 1972-79 and during that time both of our children were so fortunate to begin their school careers with Ila Harwood. She was an excellent teacher but, more than that, she knew how to nurture little people so that they were not only skilled but also confident when they entered first grade.

Our two have gone on to successful careers in landscaping and journalism, however, it all began when they were five years old.

What a blessing Ms. Harwood was!

I want you, Melissa and your family to know that Ila was one of the most dedicated persons that I have ever met. I worked with Gene and Ila both at the Rehab Center and through St. Lukes. She was a tribute to her work and contribution to this community. My wife and I learned to play MaJong early in our years to Hot Springs on the Rehab compound. Your dad helped me in becoming a consultant to the Center and I will always be greatful. They were role models and both stood head and shoulders above the rest. It was a priviledge to know both of them. May God grant you peace in knowing that they both served the Great Master, Jesus.

Ila was a wonderful neighbor and friend. Before Alzheimer's claimed her mind she loved to tell us about her granddaughters. She was so proud of them - as was Gene. We miss both of them. Ila taught Laura many years ago at St. Luke's - she had so much patience. I always looked up to both of your parents.
