J. Marilynn Costello's Obituary
J. Marilynn Costello, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. She was born on May 17, 1934, in White Plains, New York.
Marilynn is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Richard Allan Costello. Together, they graduated from Scarsdale High School, class of ’52, and were sweethearts for 72 years.
Marilynn was a graduate of Marjorie Webster Junior College, Washington, D.C. She was a resident of Hindsville, Arkansas, since 1983. She retired from Fayetteville Diagnostic Clinic in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
A passionate sports fan, Marilynn followed hockey, football, baseball, tennis, PGA golf, and anything to do with her beloved Razorbacks. She also enjoyed trying to predict the winners of the Triple Crown horse races each year. As a young woman, Marilynn attended many summers at Camp Allegro for Girls in New Hampshire, where she played lacrosse, learned to ride horseback, canoe, hike Mt. Washington, and sail. Sailing would become a way of life years later when she, her husband, and three of their five children shared years of adventures living aboard a sailboat in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean. Antiquing was a hobby she loved, from running an antique shop, “Toad Hallow” in Red Bank, New Jersey, with her sister Betty Lou, to attending War Eagle Fair in Madison County for many years. Her children will remember her for her unwavering support and love for her family. Her grandchildren will remember learning to bake many delicious cookies and desserts in their grandma’s kitchen.
Marilynn is survived by her five children: William Costello (Vickie) of Springdale, Arkansas; Robert Costello (Janice) of Gainesville, Virginia; James Costello of Hindsville, Arkansas; Nancy Knobbs of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Thomas Costello of Pineville, Missouri. Her seven grandchildren: Joseph Costello (Kristina), Richard Costello (Jessica), Jordan Eaton (Tilden), James Costello, Amanda Sebring (Russell), Rachel Velez (Christopher), Brian Knobbs (Sarah). Danielle Johnson. Seventeen great-grandchildren. Two sisters: Barbara Todd of Jacksonville, Florida, and Betty Lou Meihofer (Albert) of Port St. Lucie, Florida. And four nieces.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family.
