He also enjoyed speaking of Suzanne, since I had been her physical education teacher at Woodland Junior High. I'm very saddened this morning to discover this Obituary, accidentally, after reading the Obit of another amazing person who I had known for more than six decades (and who passed just three days after Dr Jack). The name "Dr. Jack Howard Cole" jumped off the page! He was an INCREDIBLE Professor and Person! I was lucky to be in a couple of the first classes that he taught in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the UofA. These were a couple of the most-advanced classes (Advanced Dynamics, Dynamics of Machinery) required of an ME student ... and Dr Jack taught them with exceptional clarity. But he stood far above all other Professors in the level of Caring & Mentoring that he gave to me and other ME students! He was clearly brilliant and an exceptional human being! Dr Jack is the model of who we should all aspire to be! I learned more of his interesting life by reading this Obit ... and was especially moved by reading the Tributes by niece Lisa, dance partner Elayne, and friend Karolyn. Rarely does one read a Tribute as moving as Elayne's! The story of his Ball Room Dancing with Elayne and Joyce was so nice to read! I am heartbroken. Jack started taking dance lessons with me around 1999 and continued for many years. He was trying to recover from the loss of his wife and needed something to lift his spirits.
He told me many times over that he was so grateful for me and how, through dance, I had saved his life. He eventually became the most wonderful friend who encouraged and supported my many endeavors, as he was known to do for so many. I was so happy for him when he met Joyce (while attending a dance event) and as a result the two became life partners.
He was a wonderful human being. It was a privilege to be a positive part of his life and to be a recipient of his love. I will miss him terribly. And, I must say, it was really he who saved my life. My heart goes out to all of the family.
We are so sorry to loose this brilliant friend. May he Rest In Peace.
Jack was one of the most intelligent, sharing and beautiful humans I have met. We are so sad. The world is loosing a great man.
Words are inadequate to express my deep sorrow in the passing of my Uncle Jack. A lifetime of happy memories spending time with Uncle Jack, Aunt Carol and cousin Suzanne flood my thoughts at this sad time for our family. He will be missed terribly by all who love him. He was incredibly intelligent and a giant in his chosen profession of mechanical engineering and was fortunate enough to love his work. Uncle Jack was also the quintessential family man and a loving husband to my Aunt Carol, as well as a devoted father, grandfather and brother to his daughter Suzanne, grandsons George Jr., Austin and Beau and sister Kathryn. After Aunt Carol's sad and untimely passing, he was lucky to find love and companionship again with Joyce and for that I am most grateful. His was a life well lived. My heart goes out to Suzanne, George Jr., Beau and Austin, Kathryn and Joyce. I send my deepest sympathy for your tremendous loss and heartbreak.
