Jadwiga Zajicek's Obituary
Jadwiga Zajicek of Wilno, Poland, passed peacefully away in her sleep on March 20, 2023. She was 97 years old. She was a Polish film editor, director, and screenwriter. She started working in the editing room as an assistant to the editing director— Ludmiła Niekrasowa Perska. Jadwiga Zajiček edited over 200 documentaries, 70 feature films, and many episodes of the Polish Film Chronicle. She started working in the editing room as an assistant to the editing director of Ludmiła Niekrasowa Perska. She worked with several movie directors, with whom she created long lasting and unique professional friendships. As one of her friends, Juliusz Machulski, noted, Jadwiga Zajiček’s name is widely known in the Polish film community; she belonged to a small group of Polish film editors co-creating the famous Polish School in the late 1950s.
She won awards at the National Short Film Festival in Krakow and the International Short Film Festival in Oberhausen. Winner of the award for editing at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and the Polish Filmmakers Association Award for lifetime artistic achievements. She was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis in 2014. She was a dog lover, and her favorite part of the day was when she played her favorite card game, Canasta.
Jadwiga is survived by her daughter Anna, son Edward, granddaughter Elizabeth, and two great-grandchildren, Ellis and Frankie.
Jadwiga’s life will be celebrated in April in Warsaw, Poland, with family, friends, and colleagues.
Cremation was under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
