The wave of sadness was deeply felt at the news of the passing of Dr. James Barrentine. I will forever be grateful to Jim for his introducing me to and welcoming me to Lilly Research Labs. During my 26 year career in agricultural research Jim was a mentor a supporter and most importantly a friend.

Dr. Barrentine was a great friend of my family! As a teenager he would often visit our house because he worked closely with my dad. The one thing I remember is always hearing his laugh….. it filled the house with happiness. He also loved a good cup of coffee and a home made sausage biscuit. My mom would make that for him when he visited. Perhaps that is why, to this day, it is one of my favorite meals for breakfast!
