James Nilsson Carney's Obituary
James Nilsson Carney, age 71, of Bentonville passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024, in Bentonville. He was born June 21, 1952, in New York, New York, the son of Hugh William and Beatrice Nilsson Carney. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim will be remembered for his unconventional humor and his passionate interest in cars, eclectic music, dogs, world affairs, and the cosmos. He was an avid reader. His charitable endeavors included the annual car show sponsored by the British Iron Touring Club of NWA which benefitted the ALS Foundation.
Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rita Davison Carney; their daughter Sarah Davison-Carney (Kyle) Busch; his brother William Nilsson (Virginia) Carney; his sister Susan Carney Earls; his niece Laura Elizabeth Earls; and nephews Kevin Hugh Carney and Michael Roy Carney; as well as the loving siblings of Rita: Trish Pettinelli, Catherine Shepard, Bob Davison, Tom Davison, and Maureen (Marc Williams) Davison; and niece Beth (Eric Fields) Pettinelli; as well as three great-nieces (Sophie Smyczek, Audrey Smyczek and Alexandrea Carney), one grand-nephew (William Smyczek), his lifelong friend Bob Johnson, and many cousins.
Donations in Jim’s name may be made to the NWA food bank. A private celebration of life will be held at the family’s home.
