Jim was my first teacher at Rice - a curly headed redhead from Arkansas. It was my pleasure to have been trusted to care for him after I came to Fayetteville. He was a neat guy. I am proud to have known him.
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.
May the treasured memories of a life well lived by a good man serve as a profound legacy to all his family. May God's peace bring you comfort.
May fond memories help in this time of sorrow.
This, from the Reform Jewish Prayerbook, has always spoken to us in time of loss:Life is finite. Like a candle, it burns, it glows, it is radiant with warmth and beauty. Then it fades, its substance is consumed, and it is no more.In light we see, in light we are seen. The flames dance and our lives are ful. But as night follows day, the candle of our light burns down and gutters. There is an end to the flames. We see no more and are no more seen. Yet we do not despair, for we are more than a memory fading into the darkness. With our lives we give life. Something of us can never die: we move in the eternal cycle of darkness and death, of light and life.
