James Henry Rose's Obituary
Mr. James Henry Rose, 74 of Holiday Island, AR passed away March 27, 2007 in Fayetteville, AR. Jim was born May 7, 1932 in LaCrosse, WI to Alice Lena Christ and William Harold Rose, SR.
He attended Jefferson Grade School until fourth grade where upon the family moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1942. There he attended McKinley School and later graduated from Milwaukee West High School. Jim Spent four years in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 until 1956, the last two years he spent working in Japan as a radar technician. After the service he spent a year attending Marquette University and then transferred to the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. Upon graduation, with a B.S. in Elementary Education, he taught at Green Lake Public Schools in Green Lake, WI. He met his wife, Janet Crook there and they married on August 18, 1962. In 1963 they moved to New Richmond, WI to continue teaching. Their two children, James F. and Janica L. were born in the fifteen years they lived in New. Richmond.
The family returned to the Green Lake, WI area where they resided for the next 23 years. Jim's final teaching experience was the Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution, teaching for the Wisconsin Department of Correction. In Late November of 2000, Jim and Janet relocated to Eureka Springs, AR to help operate a Bed & Breakfast called Arbor Glen with their son and daughter-in-law. After about three years the business was sold, but Jim and Janet liked Arkansas so much that they settled in Holiday Island.
Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed his children and grandchildren.
Throughout his life, he was active in church, serving on church administrative councils, building committee?s, ushering, and church choirs. He was also a member of the Jaycee?s, various teacher organizations, and most recently Commander of the Eureka Springs, Post #9 of the American Legion. He was also a member of AARP, Eureka Springs Area Dinner Club, Homeowners Association, and the Wisconsin club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Donna and Edwin Peppler, brother, Bill Rose, Jr., and brother-in-law Raymond Frederick.
Jim is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janet; One daughter Janica Carpenter and husband Kurt of Manhatten, NY, one son, Jim Rose and wife Mendy of Lee?s Summit, MO, two grandchildren, Ethan Rose and Caitlin Carpenter, one sister, Mavis Winbrenner and husband Al of Hartford, WI, sister-in-law and brother in law, Barbara and Roy Berndt of Ripon, WI, sister in laws, Donna Rose of Milwaukee, WI, Charlene Frederick of Ripon, WI.
A Memorial service will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, April 6, 2007at the First United Methodist Church in Eureka Springs, AR. Following lunch, interment will be held at 2:00 PM at Fayetteville National Cemetery. Another memorial service will be held on April 17, 2007, at 10:30 A.M., at Our Saviour's United Church of Christ in Ripon, WI.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Eureka Springs for choir robes or to Our Saviour's United Church of Christ of Ripon, WI for music for Everybody singers.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support during Jim's lengthy illness.
