Sadly I say goodbye for now to a good friend, fellow Christian and a man whom I hold up as an upstanding citizen of Benton County. Peggy my heart goes out to you and your family. I enjoyed J.E.'s friendship and stories of my Grand-Uncle Charlie whom the King family supported until his passing. May God give you peace and comfort in your grief.
It saddens me greatly to learn of JE's passing. He was such a sincerely kind man and an inspiration to me. Peggy, you will be in my prayers and I want you to know that I care for you just as much.

I got to know JE back in 1983-84, when I rented a farmhouse from Clayton Little on Miller Ridge Road, that adjoined property that JE and Peggy owned. When I moved to Bentonville in 1982, Peggy was among the first people I met in town when I opened my accounts at the Bank of Bentonville and I came to know Elizabeth when I began teach school that fall. I moved to Miller Ridge a year later and got to know JE as a neighbor of sorts. The King's did not live on the property adjoining my home, but JE pastured his old mare on the property and we visited frequently when he was over taking care of business. He was a great neighbor and graciously allowed me to walk on his property and make friends with that old mare. I had a young dog at the time and every morning the dog would have to run across the road and rub noses with the mare, they became friends. JE had a friendly smile and a friendly ear for a young school teacher, still trying to find his place in Bentonville. I always enjoyed our visits. The sad thing about leaving a neighborhood is the all to frequent loss of contact with neighbors and friends of the place, but memories do remain, the appreciation of kindnesses extended and the quiet fellowships enjoyed.
My heartfelt condolences to Peggy and all who love JE. My memories of living on Miller Ridge and the King's part in those memories remain cherished.
Enjoyed seeing you at our breakfast!
