James Arvil Mason's Obituary
James Arvil Mason, age 81, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, surrounded by love. He was born on June 20, 1944, in Lynn, Arkansas, to Hubert and Maxine Mason, who preceded him in death. He is also proceeded in death by his brother Michael and survived by sister Loretta Carpenter and her husband John.
Known for his steady presence, humility, and unwavering dedication to others, James lived a life marked by integrity, loyalty, and quiet service. He began his law enforcement career as the Police Chief in DeWitt, Arkansas, and later spent 27 years with Walmart in their Loss Prevention department. After retiring, he returned to public service as a deputy with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office — a role he held with pride and purpose. A 32nd Degree Mason and avid hunter, James found joy in early mornings outdoors, Razorback games, afternoons spent refurbishing his vintage John Deere tractor, and quiet rides through Arkansas and the American West on his trike.
In his later years, James bravely faced a seven-year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout it all, his beloved wife Lori remained by his side, caring for him with extraordinary strength, tenderness, and love. Their devotion to one another was a constant — a beautiful reflection of the life they built and the way they always showed up for each other.
James was a gentle man in every sense — warm, thoughtful, and deeply devoted to his family. He was known for his quiet strength, kind spirit, and the sense of calm he brought into every room.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lori Mason; and his children, Jamie Elam and husband Brett, Lacey Estep and husband Zach, Tess Bleich and husband Cody, Stanley Mason, and Scott Mason and wife Shree. He was a proud grandfather to Stokes, Stetson, Ellie, Finn, Zayne, Korbin, Dylan, Josh, Troy, Holly, and Pamella. Also, several great grandchildren.
James’s life was a testament to faith, family, and service. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A graveside service will be held, July 19th at 10:00am in the Garden of Peace, at Pinnacle Memorial Gardens.
