James A. Millar's Obituary
James A. Millar “Jim” of Fayetteville left the loving arms of his family on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Jim was born on March 28, 1941 in Charles County, Maryland to Jack and Natalie Millar. He graduated from Lackey High School in Indian Head, Maryland before attending Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. He married Jeanette Campbell in 1964. Jim received an MBA from West Virginia University and earned his PhD from the University of Oklahoma. He was a Professor of Finance at the University of Arkansas for 43 years where he held the Dillard Chair in Corporate Finance. Jim helped create various international study abroad programs for students/faculty and enjoyed maintaining those lifelong relationships afterward. Although he attended many schools, he was a loyal Razorback fan and supporter.
He was known for his sense of humor, kind heart, and love of family and friends. When not traveling the world with Jeanette, his wife of 57 years, he could be found hiking out west or floating the Buffalo National River with his best friends from the U of A. In recent years he spent time on the East Coast with his family, weekends at Beaver Lake, and visiting with grandchildren in Golden, CO and Bentonville, AR. In retirement, one of the highlights of his week was having breakfast with an ever-expanding group of friends known as the “2-2-2 Group” at the Village Inn.
Jim is survived by his wife Jeanette, children Jared (Carrie) Millar of Bentonville, AR, Courtney (Tim) Coleman of Golden, CO; grandchildren Lila and Brooks Millar of Bentonville and Grant Coleman of Golden; sister Sandra (Buddy) Brown of Charles County, Maryland. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Stanley Millar.
Funeral services will be held at St Paul’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, February 1st at 2:00pm with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall (masks required). In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation in Jim’s name to the “COVID-19 Response Fund” for Washington Regional Medical Center employees at www.wregional.com/give (or mail checks to Foundation, Attention COVID-19 Response Fund, P.O.
