Janette Rosine Walker Danford's Obituary
Janette Rosine Walker Danford, 90, died on Friday, May 1, 2020 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage, MO. She was born January 6, 1930 in Carthage, MO to the late Nina Shaw Walker and Earl Walker. She and Max J. Danford were married on June 13, 1966 at Grace Episcopal Church in Tucson, AZ.
Jan graduated from Carthage High School in l948, and attended Drury College, Springfield, MO for two years. She earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Kansas State Teachers College (Now Pittsburg State University) in 1955, and a Master’s degree in Education in 1964 from McMurry College in Abilene, Texas. She held Special Education Certification in Texas and Arizona.
Her teaching career included elementary schools in Kansas, Missouri, and Texas, and secondary school special education in Abilene, Texas. Jan developed the high school special education program for Tucson High School in Tucson, AZ. She worked with educable handicapped children in Carson, CA.
Survivors include a brother, Dale (Rachel) of St. Louis, Mo., brother-in-law Michael (Sharon) Danford of Everett, WA, a step-son, David (Madeline) Danford, Prescott, AZ, sisters-in-law, Wilma Danford of Springfield, OH, and Charlotte Danford of Tucson, AZ, a cousin Carl Shaw and his wife Doris of Jasper, MO and two step-grandsons, Dustin (Megan) Danford of Prescott, AZ., Jesse (Karen) Danford of Bozeman, MT, one great-granddaughter, Chloe Danford, of Bozeman, MT., numerous nieces and nephews, and two special friends, Ida Locarni of Carthage, MO and Harriett Neer of Pittsburg, KS.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband Max, step-son Larry Danford, parents Earl and Nina Walker, brothers Keith and Howard Walker, and nephew, Mike Walker.
She was a member of St. Theodore’s Episcopal Church, Bella Vista, AR where she served on the Altar Guild, previously serving on the Altar Guilds of St. Wilfrid’s Episcopal Church, Huntington Beach, CA and St Phillip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, Tucson, AZ. Jan was Past President of the Bella Vista Chapter of the American Association of University Women of Bentonville, AR and Past President of Questers Antique Guild, Blowing Springs Chapter #957, Bella Vista, AR. She was a member of Chapter DH, PEO, Bella Vista, AR. Jan also was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha social sorority and enjoyed reading, golf, antiques, bridge, and traveling.
A memorial service will be held at St. Theodore’s Episcopal Church on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 1:30 PM. Inurnment at the National Cemetery, Fayetteville, AR will be held a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St Theodore’s Episcopal Church, The Bella Vista Library, or the charity of one’s choice.
