Honestly I’m at such a loss for words as I found out this morning that my friend Jean Rowley Henderson has passed. Jean and David were my saving grace for years as a young person as I navigated through my faith journey and not knowing how to move away from fearing God to loving God. They were love. They showed the love of God in all they did.
I hate that I hadn’t seen Jean in so long.
Jean and our other dear friend Melissa catered my wedding completely (for free) and refused payment when I was a young mom just trying to make it. Jean moved me out of my house and showed up with a moving truck and community group when I had no idea how I was going to get it done. Her and David were the hands and feet of Jesus.
They catered a Saturday night dinner for the worship team once a month every weekend. They always asked me when I was a foster mom how they could help the kiddos I had in my home.
I’ll never forget when I asked her to join my Board at one of the nonprofits I was ED at, and she was afraid she wasn’t qualified. I was astonished that a woman that amazing, that accomplished was THAT HUMBLE. It took a lot of convincing that not only was she qualified but she was the perfect person to serve in that role well.
Jean was the first to make sure that all the community knew when the nonprofit events were, when supplier sales were, when community needs were not being met she jumped in with both feet without hesitation.
She was a connector. She was fearless. She was humble. She was a quiet but faithful catalyst for big big change.
She will be sorely missed, but oh what a legacy she leaves here - what a void. If you knew her, you were one of the lucky ones.
Enjoy the journey, my friend.
