Jean Ellen Marquez's Obituary
Jean Ellen Marquez, beloved matriarch, and cherished friend, passed away on March 28, 2024, in Centerton, Arkansas, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 24, 1934, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Thomas and Jean (Young) Meredith.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Vincent "Smokey" Marquez Jr., her daughter Marilyn Bicknell, and her siblings Judy Beard, Tommy Meredith, and Karen Sadler. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be deeply missed by her surviving children, Sharon Toombs and husband Todd of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Mark Marquez and wife Stacy of Marion Center, Pennsylvania.
Her grandchildren, Carly and Zac Bicknell, Sam Sjovall, Juliann Washburn and husband Marshall, Morgan Domencic and husband Alex, Megan, and Molly Marquez, will forever hold her memory dear. She is also survived by her sister, Dianne Smith.
Jean's life was rich with joy and laughter. An avid golfer, she found solace on the greens, and her passion for the game was evident to all who knew her. When she wasn't on the golf course, she could be found playing bridge with friends or enjoying the company of her cherished girl group from Layfette, Louisiana, with whom she shared countless adventures.
Jean took immense pride in her home, ensuring it was a haven of comfort and hospitality for all who entered. Known for having the nicest lawn on the street, she cultivated beauty in every corner of her life. Her trips with family and friends to Florida were cherished moments filled with laughter, creating memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
Above all, Jean was a devoted grandmother, finding her greatest joy in the presence of her grandchildren. Her love knew no bounds, and her legacy of love and family will endure through the generations.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery in Lafayette, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choosing in Jean's memory.
