Coach Brewer was my Baytown YMCA basketball coach in 1975. He was a great teacher and taught me basketball skills that carry forward to a collegiate career. I’m blessed that Coach Brewer was part of my life.

So saddened to learn of Coach Brewer's passing. I was fortunate to have him as a coach and mentor at Woodland JHS and Fayetteville HS. He always coached and taught his students to perform and live to their potential, not the limits of their circumstances. Truly his legacy is his family, but, also, the many of us whom he influenced early in our lives. RIP Coach. We carry you in our hearts.
I met Jerry in the late 70's. I got to know him through business and he was a person with a lot of class. Hard working and intelligent are just a few of his attributes. Baytown was a better place when he was here. Rest in peace.

Coach Bewer was my football coach in the 10th grade. That being my 1st year to play I wasn't very good and didn't play much. He always encouraged me, tough love I think. All these years later, I still remember the joke he told on me at the football banquet. He said I had come up to him at the end of the season asking about a knot I was getting on my arm. According to his story, he looked my arm over, grinned and said don't worry Dale that's your bicep, keep up the hard work " It will get bigger". Something about him always made me want to work harder and prove myself. Thanks coach, RIP.

Jerry is my cousin and though we have always had lots of miles and age between us he would always make me feel like i was special to him.
Our hearts go out to the family for we all have trully lost a great friend and love one!
I was a player for Coach Brewer in 8th grade and 10th grade at Woodland JR High ad then Fayetteville High School. Coach Brewer was a major influence on my life. He gave me confidence in myself and taught me to "do my best" and was a counselor and listener to me after my parents went through a divorce. Although I have received a number of awards in my life, one of the ones I am most proud of is being selected "Best Teammate" by Coach Brewer and the other coaches in 10th grade. I ran into him 25 years after graduating, and he still remembered me and we had a wonderful breakfast together - he wouldn't let me pay.
Coach Brewer taught me what hard work was. And he did it in a kind and instructional way. We butted heads over the length of my hair back in the 60’s but that was nothing compared to the kindness he showed me on and off the football field. I pulled out my yearbook from 1964 to discover he had signed it right on the front. I remember going to his and Kay’s house in the summer with Luke Coker to practice. He was always encouraging us to be better. I ran into him at Outback Steakhouse a few years ago and he called me by name! Glad you are resting in Peace, Coach.
Mr. and Mrs Brewer have made a big difference in not only my life but also my kids, Kay and Nathan. Their support of them has always meant so much and has helped them through their collegiate career. Kay plays softball in Oklahoma and I’ve always enjoyed telling Mr. Brewer about her games, I know he enjoyed it even though he couldn’t watch her play. I’ll never forget those days in Lakewood(Baytown, TX) and being the only girl in the parental friend group. I especially remember the Georgia trip where Clete, Chad and the other guys were always stuck with me while the parents played golf!! The Brewer’s were always the kindest family. I only wish were were closer on the map so we could see them more and could have visited more with Mr. Brewer. We will miss him dearly. We met Jerry in 1970, and he and Kay became two of our dearest friends. Jerry was a kind, fun, and very generous person. We have many special memories with them and fun vacations we enjoyed, especially a trip to Hawaii which was thanks to them. Much love to Kay and all the family. Rest in peace, Jerry.
