Joan Scranton's Obituary
Joan Scranton, age 85 of Elkins passed away August 14, 2024 at Countryside Assisted Living in Huntsville, AR. She was born June 18th, 1939 to Cassie Lawson Ritter and Dessie Ritter. Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wally Scranton.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Wright and husband, Mark of Elkins, grandchildren Caylee Allen and husband, Luke of Elkins and Cannon Wright and wife, Creighton of Farmington, and great grandson, Boone Allen and brother, John Ritter of Elkins. Joan had many hobbies. She was a stand-out basketball player at Elkins and later in life loved watching her daughter play ball and coach. She enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports as well.
She enjoyed collecting antiques, refinishing old furniture, and working in her many flower beds. Her grandkids called her Snow White because all the wild animals flocked to their cabin to be fed. She cherished time spent with her life-long best friends, Barbara June and Sammye. She loved hamburgers, fries, root beer, and chocolate. She was a great cook with her pies being the best. Joan was kind, witty, and had a heart of gold.
She was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held Monday, August 26, 2024 at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville at 10:30AM where she will be laid to rest by “Her Wally”. Services are under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
