Joann Powe Scogin's Obituary
Joann Powe Scogin, age 92 of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 25, 2026, in Rogers. She was born on February 5, 1934, in Slidell, Louisiana, the daughter of Robert R. Powe and Jennie Fogg Powe.
The day of her passing holds a special significance for her family as it marks the day of Joann and Ellis Scogin’s wedding anniversary. After being separated by death for 24 years, today she is now reunited with her beloved husband of 52 years. Above all we find comfort in knowing that Joann is now in the presence of our God and Savior, whom she loved and served faithfully throughout her life.
Joann grew up in Slidell, where she met the love of her life, Ellis G. Scogin, after his honorable service in World War II. They married in 1950 and built a life together, filled with devotion and hard work. Joann cherished her role as homemaker and mother, pouring her heart into raising her four sons – always ensuring they had clean clothes, warm meals, and unwavering love, even through the toughest of times. She and Ellis also opened their home and hearts to raise their granddaughter, Sarah A. Scogin, from an early age, caring for her with the same nurturing spirit until the very end.
A woman of deep and steadfast faith, Joann was an active member of church throughout her life. She served faithfully, including teaching Sunday School, at First Baptist Church in Slidell, First Baptist Church in Rogers, and most recently at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Rogers, where her commitment to Christ inspired those around her.
Joann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ellis G. Scogin; her son, Jason D. Scogin; her sister Dorothy M. Pichon; and her brothers Richard B. Powe, Robert “Bob” R. Powe, Jr., and Carl M. Powe.
She is survived by her sister, Beverly P. Cavaliere; her sons Mark W. Scogin and wife Pamela Scogin, Brett A. Scogin and wife Betty Scogin, David K. Scogin and wife Jennifer Scogin; and her granddaughter Sarah Scogin. Her other grandchildren are Ginger Mayes of Rogers, Arkansas; Jeff Gravette of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Ryan Scogin of Farmington, Arkansas; Joshua Scogin of Brownsburg, Indiana; Kyle Scogin of Farmington, Arkansas; Lance Scogin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Jennifer O’Dowd of Kerville, Texas; Jessica Adedipe of Richmond, Texas; Katherine Scogin of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; Kayla Rusher of Rogers, Arkansas; and Trevor Scogin of New York City, New York. Other survivors include 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of extended family and friends who were blessed by her caring and generous heart.
Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. Tuesday June 30, 2026, at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Rogers, Arkansas, Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Joann’s life and her homecoming to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Joann’s legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely, the faith she lived so fully, and the family she held so dearly. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
