Joanne Cecille Mendel Pollock's Obituary
Joanne Cecille Mendel Pollock of Fayetteville, 83, died Monday, Nov. 15,
2004, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
She was born April 11, 1921, in Fort Smith to Pauline Nakdimen Mendel and
Ernest J. Mendel.
She attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison and was a secretary and
homemaker. She was a member of United Hebrew Congregation of Fort Smith.
She was a volunteer in Fort Smith for decades, including for these
organizations, St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, Sparks Regional Medical
Center, Bost Human Development Services and Regional AIDS Interfaith
Network.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben S. Pollock Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Edward N. Altman of Encino, Calif., and Ben S.
Pollock of Fayetteville; one daughter, Jan C. Soderstrom of Raleigh, N.C.;
and four grandchildren.
Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the convocation room of
Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville and at 11:00 AM Thursday, Nov. 18,
at United Hebrew Temple in Fort Smith, both officiated by Jacob Adler.
Interment will be at the Fort Smith Jewish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her and her husband's name to
the Fort Smith Public Library Endowment Trust, 3201 Rogers Ave., Fort Smith,
Ark. 72903.
