John B. Ferguson's Obituary
John "J.B." Ferguson, 63 of Western Grove, Arkansas passed away Sunday, March 21, 2004 at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas, he was formally of Phillips County, Arkansas. He was born August 19, 1940 in Parkin, Arkansas the son of Bert Lee and Mattie A. Morgan Ferguson. He was a Baptist and a retired carpenter. He served two tours of duty in South Vietnam. John flew Cobras and Huey helicopters during his military service and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in Vietnam for heroism. He was also awarded the Air Medal fifty four times. While stationed in Germany John saved a fellow soldier from a burning fuel tanker and was awarded the Soldiers Medal for his heroic action.
He is survived by one son; Jonathan Ferguson of Morrilton, Arkansas, three sisters; Della Long of Western Grove, Arkansas, Patty Smith of Harrison, Arkansas, Debby Lang of Sardis, Mississippi, seven brothers; Lee Ferguson of Harker Heights, Texas, Mac Ferguson of Lexington South Carolina, Hershel Ferguson of Aubrey, Arkansas, Jerry Ferguson of Malvern, Arkansas, James "Butch" Ferguson of Malvern, Arkansas, George "Pete" Ferguson of Canvas, West Virginia and Gary "Beau" Ferguson of Oxford, Mississippi.
A committal service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at the Fayetteville National Cemetery with Pastor Jack Searcy officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening March 23, 2004 at 6:00 PM at the Western Grove Baptist Church in Western Grove, Arkansas. Visitation will also be 12:30 PM till 1:30 PM, Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in the Chapel at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
