John Frazer Brewer Jr's Obituary
John Brewer was born on August 27, 1929, in Little Rock, Arkansas to John Frazier Brewer and Mildred Francis Reeves Brewer. In 1948, John received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point from Senator J. W. Fulbright of Arkansas. During his tenure at West Point, John played lacrosse where he was three-year letterman and earned three navy stars (Go Army! Beat Navy!) while earning a degree in civil engineering. In 1950, he met Marianne Sugden, a student at Vassar College. After their respective graduations in 1952, they married on June 14 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. John embarked on a thirty-year career in the Corps of Engineers where his service in the military took him around the world- Japan, Germany, Alaska, Virginia, Texas, New York, while also doing one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. In 1956, John earned a master of science degree in civil engineering from California Institute of Technology. His last assignment with the army was with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service located in Dallas, Texas. He and Marianne settled in Duncanville, Texas where he retired from the military in 1982. He continued his work as a civil engineer with FINA Oil where he ultimately retired from the workforce in 1989. In 2007, they relocated to Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Marianne passed away in 2014.
John is survived by his five children- John Frazier Brewer III (Linda) of Fairview, Tennessee, Bob Brewer (Jonna Hussey), of Fayetteville, Mark Brewer (Rhonda Hedley) of Middletown, Virginia, Laura Brewer of Fayetteville, and Scott Brewer (Pennie) or Fayetteville; 3 grandchildren- Mollie Brewer Fisher (Alex) of Fayetteville, Sarah Brewer of Baltimore, Maryland, and Ian Brewer of Fayetteville; and 1 great-grandson- Henry Fisher of Fayetteville.
John and Marianne will be interred at the United States Military Academy West Point at a later date.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Nelson-Berna Funeral Home of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
