My sincere condolences to all the family of Professor John C. Guilds. He was a gentleman and a scholar. And a South Carolinian. Our lives touched only once, but it was important: he interviewed me for an academic position in 1966 when I was finishing a Ph.D. at the Univ. of Tennessee. A fond memory. Years later I came to Carolina.
Jack Guilds was among the truly great men in academia. I knew him at the University of South Carolina but always remembered him fondly and respected him. My condolences to his family.
A true gentleman and a scholar, always energetic in his scholarship. A kind man, and patient yet requiring much of his students. He will be missed. Solace to his family.
Dear Candy, Reba and Carolee,I am Ellen Cato and Johnny, as I call that dear men rented my cottage for 2 years. What a jewel of a gent and South Carolina man of manners and etiquette. Johnny thoroughly enjoyed my friends and frequent gatherings at my home. We were good pals.Sending Mother Earth prayers to you all,Ellen
