John Edward Flores' Obituary
John Edward Flores July 10, 1947 - November 29,2025
The oldest of six children, John Flores was born on July 10, 1947, to Andrew Gallegos Flores and Mary Katherine (Hustedde) Flores in Tulsa, Oklahoma and left this earth on November 29, 2025, at the age of 78.
He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma attending St. Pius X Catholic Church serving as an altar boy and graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1966. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 in the 22nd Security Police Squadron of the Strategic Air Command attaining the rank of Sargent. During the Vietnam War, he was a K-9 handler. His commitment to country and fellow man remained a guiding force throughout his life.
John moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas in 2004 to escape city life for more quiet and peaceful surroundings. Early on he had a curiosity for nature and adventure whether it was taking a drive in his jeep, floating the Kings River, or treasure hunting with his metal detector. In most recent years, he enjoyed reading his books or conversation with family and close friends. He was affectionately known as "Papa John" to his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
John was preceded in death by his beloved companion, Ardythe Ann Hambrick; his parents; brothers: infant Flores, Andrew "Larry" Flores, James "Jimmy" Michael Flores, and Robert Anthony Flores.
John is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Stephanie Flores and Michael Jennings of Tulsa, OK., a son and daughter-in-law: Jonathan and Jessica Flores of Rogers, AR.; Grandchildren: Cole, Gannon, Jaxon, Aiden, and Arianna; Great-grandchild: Kora; Sister: H. Katherine Flores of Tulsa, OK.; Sister-in-law: Loretta Flores of Broken Arrow, OK.; Nieces: Andrea, Danielle, Kristy; Nephew: Kyle.
Family and friends will dearly miss our dad. His smile was one of a kind and his laughter was contagious. The family gives a heartfelt thanks to the Veterans Palliative Care Unit team, Resident Care staff at Arkansas State Veterans Home, as well as the Circle of Life Hospice for their compassionate care.
A Graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, December 11, at 1:30 PM at Fayetteville National Cemetery, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
