John Phillip Lamp's Obituary
John Phillip Lamp, age 91, of Fayetteville passed away Monday, April 25, 2022. The oldest of three children, he was born April 8, 1931, in Mora, Minnesota to John and Lois Ward Lamp. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Myron Lamp.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Reba Lamp; daughter, Susan Lamp of Fayetteville; son, John M. Lamp of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; sister, Barbara Tvedt of Ogilvie, Minnesota; two grandchildren, John J. Lamp, Sarah Lamp and five great grandchildren.
John joined the National Guard at age 18; two years later he became active military in the U. S. Air Force. He served as an aircraft mechanic for 10 years then as an aircraft mechanic instructor for another 10 years. While he was in the service, he was stationed around the U. S. and overseas. John and his family spent time in Texas, Alaska, Michigan, and Germany. While stationed in Germany, he and the family traveled Europe and England, making friendships that would last a lifetime. During the Vietnam war, John was stationed remotely in Thailand for a year before rejoining his family in Texas. After 22 years in the military, John retired and the family moved to Huntsville, Arkansas, where he maintained a small farm while working for the city of Fayetteville. Upon retirement from the city, John and Reba built a house in Fayetteville. They moved to that house and have lived there for over 27 years.
For 52 years, John was a member and deacon of Central Baptist Church in Fayetteville where he taught Sunday school to adult age groups. He spent many hours learning more about the Bible and passing that information on. John’s interests extended to gardening, woodworking, crossword puzzles, and helping to maintain the household.
Visitation will be prior to the funeral service from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm at Moore's Chapel
Funeral service will be 12:30 pm Friday April 29, 2022 at Moore’s Chapel with burial to follow in the Fayetteville National Cemetery under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
