I so appreciated John's dry sense of humor. So glad we had the chance to become friends.
All of us here at Robert James Salon will miss him at his early morning appointments.

Didn't know John well, but what I knew, I liked. How could I not appreciate another cat lover. To love and be loved by a kitty is the highest of honors.
Carolyn and family,
I have many fond memories of John on the links, often other venues than PVAC, but for sure mostly there. Enjoying a cold one or savoring a “wee dram” was usually a highlight. But I will miss most his keen sense of humor and perception of our human nature in general, and the intelligent conversations we had over the last 50 years. Sincerest condolences to the family, and greatest regards to a wife who was steadfast and true through his tough times. Rest easy my friend.
I first met John when I started playing golf in 1982. Over the past 40 years I was blessed to play 100’s of rounds with John and even though you knew he would complain about the teams on the first tee he was going to compete to the end and would make enough “Leonard” pars to beat most anyone. John loved golf, Paradise Valley, and his wife. I will miss you pards!!

I always enjoyed playing golf with John and the good conversations we would have. We even won a few 3 man scrambles together. Fun times. Especially on the practice green playing 7 point. Underneath that gruff exterior was a really good man and I will miss him.
I have played PV since 1972 so I can’t remember a PV without John. He was always there and always putting. I appreciated his help and support when I played Lindsey Cup and we will all miss him.
John was a dear friend on and off the golf course. We shared a common love of dark beer and good scotch whiskey. He was a good liberal! One of my favorite memories of John was during one of his beloved Lindsey Cup matches. He was two down after five holes and his game was shakey. I gave him two beers on six tee. He thanked me, drank the beers, settled down and won his match. "Leonard pars" will live forever at Paradise Valley.
I first met Johnnie in 1972. Yes, he could be grumpy. However, he could make you life more times than being grumpy. He could make a good pizza (Cable Car). I could never talk him into giving me half price on my pizza. I made up for it one day. Johnnie was busy and he gave me a free tea with my pizza. You will definitely be missed.
John was a very good friend and golf buddy. His zest for life was awesome. Yeah, he could be caustic and grumpy, but he was always fun to be around and compete with. He did love his golf and his golf course. No one played more rounds solo or together than John and you could always find him on the putting green. I'm going to miss you, buddy. Douglas Rhoads
