I am a former psychology student of Dr. Marr, graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1991. He was one of my favorite professors and I was just thinking of him and after searching online I was saddened to see he passed away. I still use and apply everything he taught me in my own teaching as an elementary school teacher and in my own life as well. Sending love to his family.

In 1999, when I needed a place to start my psychology practice, Jack warmly welcomed me to his. Over the next ten years, his example and instruction helped shape my skills and professionalism. Jack was always gracious and generous with advice and support.
Through Jack's service to our country and institutions, his tenure as a professor, his therapy services, and his friendships, Jack made a difference in thousands of lives, every one of which he considered worthy of his undivided attention. Thank you, Jack, for putting yourself out there for the rest of us to enjoy and learn from.

Dr. Marr was my undergraduate supervisor in 1972. In a meeting with him that fall, he asked what my career plan was. I said all I had lined up was a job at Texaco, He suggested graduate school. I asked what the point of that would be. " To be a psychologist like me." I've never received better advice. But I never became a psychologist as good as he was.

Jack made an outsized contribution to the University of Arkansas. I learned from him "the interview method" that required students to tell one another what they had just read or learned from lectures. There's no way better to understand concepts than to teach them to others. Jake was a fine research supervisor--good to his colleagues and supportive of students. He was a fine counselor, a superb teacher, and a valued member of the UA faculty. He will be missed.
To all of the Marr Family, I wanted to express my deepest condolences about Jack's passing. What an outstanding man he was, loved to hear him talk, and I am so incredibly lucky to have known such a great individual. He left an indelible, indelible impression on me; there is not enough room on this website for me to tell that many fond memories I have of this outstanding man.

In the early 1970’s, Dr. Marr taught an innovative graduate course in which we students taught our rats—through operant techniques—to play soccer by pushing a ping-pong ball into the other rat's goal. My team’s rat, “Puck”, won the competition by making 15 goals in 3 minutes: 8 for our team and 7 for the other team. Great learning and fun with a great professor!
