I met John at the Knox Street pub in downtown Dallas, a couple of miles south of SMU where he was finishing up his LLM program. John was living at the dorms on campus and had his clothes on his back and that was about it. We soon became friends and after he graduated, we decided to become roommates in North Dallas. John excepted a job with the IRS but received a job offer from a law firm and decided being a tax attorney paid a little better. And I were nothing alike, but somehow we had a very strong friendship. He had been in school for a very long time and was ready to enjoy life so that’s what we did. He decided he needed a red convertible RX7. I drove a station wagon with simulated wood paneling on the side. He drove when we went out on the town. We wen to all kinds of sporting events, but he was really fond of the Byron Nelson and the Colonial golf tournaments. We both had girlfriends so we didn’t see each other on weekdays very often. Since he was an accountant, he paid all the bills for us. All I had to do was leave cash on the ironing board. We were roommates for a couple of years before we both went our separate ways. We stayed in touch through the years on Facebook and I read his post about cycling. Knowing him that didn’t surprise me that he was in great shape. People I have met in my life like John Neihouse have been great inspirations for me to get my life together and make something up myself so that’s what I did. I got my degree got married and have two sons that excel as pitchers at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond La. My wife and I build Navy war ships for the past 22 on the MS Gulf Coast. It’s people like John that inspired me to make something of myself. This news totally caught me off guard. Christ peace John Neihouse. Thank you for the wonderful memories! Curt Robb
