I was surprised and saddened to learn of John's passing. I was in Philadelphia visiting with my son and ex wife when I mentioned John and she told me.

Even more surprising to me was the last time I saw him, in 2006, he looked so trim and healthy. I miss my kind and generous friend. I knew him when he lived at Sassafras in Newton Co. and we kept in touch after he moved to CA. Later on, after he moved back to AR, I would always stop by to visit my old friend "Hooch" whenever I was in Fayetteville.

I'm sorry I'm so late in offering my condolences to John's family...and especially to Apple who I remember so fondly from our time at Sassafras. It's been so many years and all of our lives have changed so much, but I still cherish my memories of knowing 'Hootch' and our grand experiment in living off the land...it's a time that has colored every experience I have had since then.

My love to John's family...I'm so saddened to hear of his passing.

I am a Roslyn High School classmate of John's I enjoyed talking with him at our recent reunion. He seemed like such an intelligent, kind and sensitive person. I'm so glad that we had that opportunity. I am so sorry for your tragic loss.

I had the pleasure of working with John for some years in Los Angeles and aside from being excellent at his job he was a good friend and a very nice man. He also introduced me to "bagels" for the first time.
