Col. John Williams Krim's Obituary
Col. John Williams Krim, (U.S. Air Force, Ret.), age 81, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his home. He was born May 22, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Harry T. Krim and Alice Matilda (Williams) Krim.
John attended Boston College High School and Boston College. He graduated in the class of 1954, and also received an MBA from Central Michigan University.
He was retired from the United States Air Force serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #6609. John was very active in the Lions Club and was a member of the noon Fayetteville group and a past President. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient and also voted Lion of the Year.
John had a distinguished military career with many awards. He was a wonderful husband, father and coach. He loved all sports especially his Boston teams. A highlight was in 2004 to be at the winning game of the World Series for his beloved Boston Red Sox.
Following retirement, he operated the local H & R Block franchise. He was a member of the Fayetteville Country Club and enjoyed playing golf.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Alice “Mal” (McGrath) Krim; a daughter, Maryalice “Merri” (Krim) Bretz and husband Lyle R., of Ames, IA; son, John W. Krim, Jr. and wife Jacqueline C., of Olathe, KS; son, Stephen G. Krim and wife Ann Katherine, of Richardson, TX; daughter, Kristina (Krim) Forster and husband Lance A. of Decatur, IL; sister, Evelyn M. Crowley, of Milton, MA; brother, Fred J. Krim, of Ocala, FL; and brother, Harry T. Krim and wife Alice, of Garden City, NY; nine grandchildren, Daniel J. Bretz and wife Kathrine M., of West Des Moines, IA; Suzanne M. Baumberger and husband Ryan J., of Johnston, IA; John Williams Krim III, Mary Katherine Krim, and Patrick Browning Krim, all of Olathe, KS; Caroline E. Forster, of Decatur, IL; Stephen M. Krim, Ann Marie W. Krim and Colleen M. Krim, all of Plano, TX. He also leaves two great-grandchildren, Lillian A. Bretz and Callan A. Bretz, of West Des Moines, IA.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Alice E. Melanson and her husband Hank, his brother Philip G. Krim, sister in-law Gwen Matthews Krim, and brother in-law John C. Crowley.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fayetteville, Arkansas, with Father John Antony officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of St. Joseph’s. Interment will follow at Fayetteville National Cemetery. The United States Air Force Color Guard will provide full military honors.
