Jose "Joey" Carlos Vargas Jr.'s Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, nephew and cousin, Jose “Joey” Carlos Vargas, Jr. Joey left us all too soon on July 19, 2023, at the age of 37.
Born on June 26, 1986, in the bustling borough of Queens, New York, Joey brought joy and laughter to all who knew him. Even though his family moved to Rogers, Arkansas in 1998, he could always be found wearing his hometown's team colors with pride. Joey will forever be remembered for his love of family, his playful sense of humor, and his devotion to both the New York Football Giants and the New York Yankees.
Joey was a loving son to his parents, Jose “Joe” Carlos Vargas Sr. and Cheryl (Romanger) Vargas. They provided infinite support and unconditional love throughout his entire life. Joey had strong bonds with his siblings, Crystal Lewis (Steven Lewis) and Anthony Vargas (Xa Ho). Crystal was her brother's keeper, providing stability and guidance during life's highs and lows. Anthony's deep love for his brother allowed him to always show up when it mattered most. The Vargas siblings protected each other, were there for each other, and shared a genuine love.
His niece, Ava Kris Lewis, held a special place in his heart, because of her humorous candor that brought a smile to his face. Whether it was summers in New York or road trips to Texas, Joey was fortunate enough to share countless memories with his large, loud, and loving Italian and Puerto Rican aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joey shared a beautiful daughter, Selena Crystal Vargas, with the love of his life, Star Balderas Alvardo. He embraced fatherhood with love and pride. He treasured every moment with Selena and she will always be remembered as the light in his life.
Joey was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Rita Romanger; paternal grandmother, Carmen Ortiz; uncle, Ace Colon; and cousin, Gary Romanger, Jr. Although our families have suffered great loses, we all take comfort in knowing that Joey will rest easy in good company. He will be truly missed and forever remembered.
